Fraunhofer is Europe’s largest application-oriented research organization. Our research efforts are geared entirely to people’s needs: health, security, communication, energy and the environment. As a result, the work undertaken by our researchers and developers has a significant impact on people’s lives.
The Stuttgart metropolitan region is one of the most innovative ones in Europe. As interface between research and industry, the Fraunhofer campus Stuttgart as second largest research center of Fraunhofer in Germany plays an important role. Around 1700 employees work in five independent institutes in diverse research fields. The main focusses are, amongst others, technology management, biotechnology and environmental technology, projects in organization and automation, urban development and regional planning as well as innovation and IP management.
Project involvement within ARENA2036
Project partners within the “research factory” ARENA2036 are the two Fraunhofer institutes IAO and IPA.
Fraunhofer IPA realizes highly innovative and sustainable solutions in manufacturing engineering and automation for costumers in diverse future-oriented industries. The solutions are always related to the strategic cornerstones “Mass Sustainability” and “Mass Personalization”. In ARENA2036, Fraunhofer IPA coordinates research on novel methods for future car manufacturing. Therefore, a new “research factory” is being built where technologies are developed that enable personal products in lot size one to the costs of mass production. Core technology for this are agile production systems enabling companies to react to fluctuating competitive factors or shorter product life cycle times. Fraunhofer IPA develops solutions to plan these systems and realizes components, e. g. agile assembly stations.
