Project involvement within ARENA2036
NOKIA with its research arm NOKIA Bell Labs joins the ARENA2036 to conduct disruptive research on industrial wireless solutions based on 5G to help power the fourth industrial revolution.
We envision this revolution as being driven by 5G and augmented intelligence systems connecting to a trillion sensors, systems, platforms and automata/robots over a massive scale distributed network infrastructure, supporting ultra-low latency and ultra-high capacity, reliability and security.
5G brings significant innovations such as massive machine type communication (MTC) and ultra-reliable machine-type communications (URLLC) with latencies in the order of milliseconds and jitter in the order of microseconds. Minimizing latency and jitter while increasing reliability opens up potentially lucrative new business opportunities arising from new applications that simply will not work properly if network delays are too high. We foresee that 5G will enable numerous new use cases and applications with highly flexible production modules, robot/human interactions, real-time and remote operation of machines and the support of connected AGVs.
